Supporting Learning From Home

I am slowly posting content on google classroom. At this point in time I have posted all activities for Monday. My hope is to always have at least the next day’s activities posted by the end of each day." a"Alberta Education has set the guidelines for students in grade 1 to complete 5 hours of learning a week with a focus on literacy and numeracy. My goal is to provide an hour a day of learning activities related to literacy and numeracy.

I have tried to create routine in our daily lessons to support learning at home. Everyday students will work on sight words, one-minute activities (to support phonological awareness), and number of the day. Each day there will also be specific lessons in literacy and numeracy. In the classwork section of the google classroom I have grouped all assignments according to day and will post a message on the top of each day outlining what students can do that day. I am trying to include an audio clip on every message of me reading the instructions for the students so that they can try to work independently. I will start off small with only a few activities as we are all learning at this time.

If you get stuck, can’t access something, or are confused please send me an email so I can support you. I will either respond through an email or I will call you and try to work through the problem. I have included a few videos to support navigating through google classroom. Thank you for your patience. I know this is a learning curve for everyone. I am here to support learning at home, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you so much parents and guardians for being so patient while we take the necessary time to set up distance learning. Yesterday I emailed all parents with login information for zorbits, raz-kids, and google classroom. If you did not receive this email please let me know so we can update contact information. Also, yesterday an email was sent out from the school about picking up materials from the school. Our class is scheduled to pick up materials tomorrow (March 19th) from 8:30-11:00. I will be sending home student's journals, language arts notebook, printing practice and a reference sheet for writing. Please remember to return library books, home reading folders, and home math folders.
